INTRO TO OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING

Tired of having your friend do all the work when you go climb outdoors? Want to feel like you're contributing to the team? In our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing course you'll be taught the necessary skills to climb safely and efficiently outdoors on your own. This course covers everything you need to know including knots and hitches and the appropriate times to apply and use them. You'll be taught how to build three different types of top rope anchors and given instruction on when to use each anchor and where. Lastly, you'll be taught how to safely rappel utilizing all the appropriate safety measures such as autoblocks, which acts as a third hand, and extending your rappel device. All courses are hands on instruction so you can rest assured you'll learn these valuable technical skills from practicing them yourself with a professionally trained AMGA Guide in your presence.

KNOTS & HITCHES
We’ll review and practice the applicable knots and hitches needed to climb safely and efficiently outdoors in a ground school setting. Knots and hitches reviewed will be figure eight on a bight, double and triple fisherman, kleimheist, pruski, autoblock, clove, girth, and basket hitch.
TOP ROPE ANCHORS
We’ll review and demonstrate how to construct 3 different types of top rope anchors including a pre equalized/cordelette anchor, self- equalizing/equalette anchor, and a quad anchor. Our professionally trained guides will point out what to look for when constructing an anchor on pre-drilled bolts and speak to rock quality, angles, and more.
RAPPELLING
We’ll review how to safely rappel applying an autoblock, acting as a third hand. All participants will be taught how to extend their belay device while simultaneously incorporating a personal anchor into their tether.
